St. Gabriel School
Profile
St. Gabriel
Catholic School is an elementary school for Kindergarten
through eighth grade children.
From its
beginning in 1956 to the present day, St. Gabriel is a great
choice for educating young minds, providing a solid
foundation for high school and beyond.
Our traditional
education offers strong Christian values and fosters
academic excellence through a dedicated staff and involved
parents. The school is fully accredited through the Missouri
Chapter of the National Federation of Non-Public School
Accrediting Association and the North Central Association
Commission on Accreditation and School Improvement.
Accreditation is based on leadership, school and student
performance, planning, curriculum, instruction, school
activities, and technology standards.
With the
emphasis on a strong traditional core curriculum, our
students commonly score two years above grade level on
standardized tests and are among the highest scoring when
compared to the national averages of public and local
private schools.
Our small class
size allows us to accommodate the needs of the individual
student and encourages interaction between families and
faculty for the benefit of the child. The energetic staff of
certified teachers leads classes of 15-25 students in a
traditional core-curriculum. Augmenting the core are classes
in music, art, physical education, computers, library, and
computer-based programs such as the STAR and Accelerated
reader.
Students are
taught Bible history, Christian values and Catholic
traditions through daily religion classes. Additionally, St.
Gabriel students attend a student-led Mass weekly. Students
have the opportunity to read scripture, serve at the altar,
present gifts and sing in the choir, providing wonderful
experiences to better understand the Mass and gain
confidence in speaking and singing before a group.
Throughout the
school year students participate in service projects and
fundraisers to benefit childrens’ hospitals or support local
and national needs. Through these efforts children have
practical experience in learning to answer God’s call to
serve.
Beyond the 8:00
a.m. to 3:00 p.m. school day, child care is available. Our
adjoining daycare facility, the St. Gabriel Early Childhood
and Learning Center, manages before- and after-school care
for our students. This program provides snacks and adult
supervision for both homework and play time in a safe and
secure environment. Additionally, the ECLC provides for
full-time care and plenty of activities during the summer
months with the Summer Safari program. Students of St.
Gabriel School also have the opportunity to learn and
develop athletic skills in well-organized athletic programs.
St. Gabriel School participates in the Diocesan leagues for
boys’ and girls’ basketball and girls’ volleyball. The teams
begin in 3rd or 4th grade and are coached by parents, with
team practices scheduled in our school gym during evening
hours. These sports programs not only engage the child in
learning coordination, athletic skills and rules of play,
but also promote physical fitness, equal participation, team
work and school spirit.
